Andrew Burridge

Andrew Burridge of SHS Burridge Architects EdinburghAndrew has been delivering projects for over 30 years. With his own practice since 1995, he has specialised in residential buildings and commercial fit-out projects.

Combining his knowledge of high-quality materials and bespoke construction, he produces contemporary designs with what the press has described as “refined simplicity”

Andrew has a special interest in sustainable design, particularly energy-efficient houses. He has won a number of awards for his designs and his Flower House was built as one of the exemplars sustainable at Scotland’s Housing Expo in 2010.

Alongside this is his interest in cross-laminated timber CLT construction, which combines the sustainability of timber with precise factory construction and rapid site erection.

With his practice in Edinburgh, Andrew has worked with numerous Listed Buildings and has developed a skill for designing contemporary interventions for historic buildings across Edinburgh, Fife, East Lothian, Stirling, and Scotland.

Andrew also has extensive experience in both office and education buildings, starting in his early career, he has continued with his own practice with office fit-out and commercial interior projects as well as refurbishment and upgrading projects for various Scottish universities.

In addition to his work with SHS BURRIDGE ARCHITECTS, Andrew is a professional practice examiner with APEAS (Architects Professional Examination Authority in Scotland) and has served as a Member of Council for both the RIAS and the Edinburgh Architectural Association and as a Board Member and Deputy Chairman of the Friends of the Royal Scottish Academy. He has also undertaken several charity cycles, riding from Land’s End to John O’Groats in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and twice having ridden from Calcutta up into the Himalayas raising money for Dr. Graham’s Homes, educating deprived children in West Bengal.

Jane Burridge

Jane Burridge of SHS Burridge Architects Edinburgh

Jane has held leadership and senior management roles for over 20 years and is a strong
communicator with the values of integrity, enthusiasm, creativity and collaboration at the
heart of her working practice.

Her expertise is in strategic analysis, planning and liaising closely with Clients to formulate
briefs and achieve the aspirations of user groups and project stakeholders. In recent years
she has focused on complex projects with particular socio-economic challenges which
involve building strong partnerships. Currently, she holds a fulltime secondment post at
Clackmannanshire Council supporting the delivery of City Region Deal capital investment.
Jane has a particular understanding of the complexities of the modern workplace, having
been involved in office design throughout her career in practice and, for several years she
has focused on the contemporary office environment when leading a 4th Year Design Unit
at Dundee University School of Architecture.

Jane is also a passionate campaigner for ‘knowledge transfer’ and has mentored women
in the construction industry since 2008, through Women in Property, and the government
funded JIVE mentoring programme. In 2012 she was invited to mentor for the Arkwright
Scholarship Trust and became a STEM ambassador.

She was a Civic Trust Awards assessor for 17 years including sitting on the CTA National Panel. In 2017 – 2018 she was invited to become a member of Tyne Esk LEADER Local Action Group (LAG), in connection with her involvement with Gorebridge Community Development Trust. In 2020 she joined the Board of GCDT and she also held the post of Development Director of the Asia Scotland Trust focusing on is the regeneration of the Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden, Kolkata.
